Trucker Mortgagesby Matador Lending

How it works

Do the whole thing from the cab

No branch visits. No fax machines. No waiting for business hours on a Tuesday when you're in Wyoming. Here's how buying a home works when your office has 18 wheels.

STEP 01

Prequalify in about a minute

Tell us how you get paid, what you can document, and where you want to buy. No credit pull, no tax returns. Do it at a truck stop, a shipper, or on your couch.

STEP 02

Talk to a loan officer who speaks trucking

We'll talk settlements, factoring, per diem, and lease-purchase without a translator. Then we recommend the program that fits: bank statement, 1099, P&L, DSCR, or traditional.

STEP 03

Upload documents from your phone

Snap or download statements, 1099s, and ID and upload them to a secure portal. We tell you exactly what your lender needs, so you don't chase paperwork between loads.

STEP 04

Get matched across 150+ lenders

We shop your file with wholesale lenders, including non-QM lenders built for self-employed income, and bring you the options that make sense.

STEP 05

Shop for a home on your home time

With a prequalification in hand, you and your agent can tour homes when you're off the road and make offers with confidence.

STEP 06

E-sign and close remotely where available

Sign disclosures from the cab. Close with a mobile notary at a time and place that works, or with remote online notarization where allowed.

Get ahead of it

What to have ready

Gather these over a couple of weeks and your file moves faster. Keep everything in one folder on your phone.

  • Photo ID (your CDL works)
  • 12 to 24 months of bank statements, or your 1099s, or a CPA P&L
  • Your carrier lease agreement or proof of authority (MC/DOT)
  • Two months of statements for down payment and reserve accounts
  • A short explanation of any large one-time deposits
  • Your agent's contact info once you have one

Plan around home time

Most of the process doesn't need you in person. The parts that do, like touring homes, the inspection walk-through, and closing, can be scheduled around your 34-hour reset or home time. Tell us your schedule and we'll build the timeline around it.

If you run OTR, it helps to choose an agent who's comfortable with video tours and texting, and to give a trusted family member authority to handle pick-ups and drop-offs.

Questions

About the process

Can I do the whole mortgage process from the truck?

Most of it. You can prequalify online, upload statements from your phone, e-sign disclosures between loads, and talk to your loan officer by phone or text. Closing can often be done with a mobile notary at a location that works for you, or with remote online notarization where it's allowed.

Does checking my options hurt my credit?

No. Our prequalification form doesn't pull your credit. When you're ready to move forward with a full application, the lender will need a credit report, and we'll tell you before that happens.

How long does it take to buy a house as a truck driver?

It depends on the lender, the property, and how quickly documents come back. The biggest thing you control is having your statements, IDs, and asset documents ready before you go under contract. Getting prequalified early lets you shop with confidence when your home time comes up.

What happens after I fill out the form?

A licensed loan officer reviews your answers and reaches out by text or phone at a time that works around your driving. We'll talk through how you're paid, which program fits, and which documents you'll need. If it makes sense to move forward, we'll send a secure application link.
